Howdy Y’all,
How was your weekend? Mine started with a BBQ, yes you read that right, a BBQ in January. For those of you who caught Friday’s post the dip I linked was fabulous. I was going to a larger party and doubled the recipe but on reflection I probably didn’t need to do so. I would imagine the recipe would comfortably feed six if it is part of a selection of appetizers. I spent the rest of the weekend relaxing and celebrating a friend at her baby shower. Little L has been a little under the weather and so a quiet Sunday was what the Dr ordered. It was during the shower that inspiration for today’s post came up. We were talking about winter and how the constant change of temperature plays havoc with ones skin and hair. One of the ladies mentioned that she was struggling with her lips. Lips is an area where I feel I have comfortably found a formula that works for me and I wanted to share some of my thoughts and findings with you.
I must preface this, the most important thing which tends to effect my lips, skin and hair throughout the year is drinking enough water. It is a recurring ambition of mine to drink more water, although I am doing much better I am a mother of a toddler and when the chance comes it is a gulp of luke warm coffee or another type of mummy juice “wine!” Which has its appeal. That being said I do find when I am hydrated everything is better. There are so many lip balm’s to buy, but I display my favorites that I find really work. What are your favourites? What do I need to try?
My Holy Grail Lip Balms

Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment Tulip & Rose. Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment.
If you have been reading the blog a while you will be aware of my love of the brand Fresh and their Lip products do not disappoint, (you will see I have three listed.) The white one (middle in the picture) is the Advanced Therapy treatment, this is the most nourishing and is one I tend to wear at night or when my lips are in desperate need of hydration. The other two are tinted, Rose (lowest in the picture) is lightly tinted and I wear if I’m about the house. This color would suit many skin types. Tulip (the top in the picture ) is great, it has a much darker tint and is more like a lipstick but has that lovely nourishing texture which stays with you for hours. This is one of my favourite things to wear everyday. I always make sure I have a backup ready to go. There is a great selection of colors to choose from dependent on your taste and preference. It contains SPF 15 which is another bonus. Give these a try you would not be disappointed.
Clarins Instant Lip Balm Perfecter
To me Clarins produce some of the best lip products money can buy. I am such a huge fan of their Instant Light Lip Perfecters but that will be another post. This lip balm is nourishing with a light pink tint and a slightly glossy finish which adds a beautiful shine to the lip. This is another product which would not disappoint and a selection of colors available to buy.
I had read many a good thing about this item from other beauty bloggers, when I saw it near the till in Sephora I had to try it. (I love that area near the tills in Sephora so many goodies to try!) In true Bobbie Brown style this does not disappoint, it is the closest to a conventional lip balm I have. This gets plenty of use, I tend to apply before I go in the shower and underneath other lip products if I am wearing a day of fuller makeup. It’s soothing and nourishing and not greasy so works well as a base/primer for my lips all day.
Dior Lip Glow Color Reviver Balm
This product intrigued me when it first came out, in fact I thought it was going to help me on my quest to find the perfect lip color. It claims to work with your lip chemistry to create the perfect shade. It certainly does change color after application and for me it stays a beautiful pink shade. It has SPF 10 which is great. I have found myself drawn to this more in the summer months because I feel the finish is pretty and light but don’t be mistaken my lips always feel nourished and comfortable after wearing.
This for me is less of a balm and more of a treatment, that is why it’s called a mask. A mask is what it is. It is very thick and you feel as if you are applying a lackquer to your lips. I only wear this at night and tend to use twice a week and I do find I wake up with my lips feeling nourished. One does have to be careful that your hair doesn’t get caught in the mask.
A lip color chart – the things I do.
Hope you have found this inspiring and that we can all run our lips together and they feel soft and smooth.
Ta Ta for now
