Sephora Play Review! October 2016

by thelifestylelady October 24, 2016

Howdy Y’all,

Happy Monday. We are recovering from an short trip to Dallas for a toddler birthday party, it seems so shocking that we are celebrating our babies now turning three, where does time go? It was the first time I had been back since the move and it was bittersweet, on the one hand I feel so much has happened in the four months since we left and on the other it was like we had never left and could slip back into the routine we loved so much. When you move and are faced with starting anew it really makes you appreciate and value the friendships you made, especially in Dallas where I made friends with mum’s who were all having their first babies around the same time. I do think it is so fortunate that (where we can) we return to the celebrations and blessings of my friends. Little L had a wonderful time.

If you have been a friend of this blog for a little while you will know that Little L had bought me a subscription to Birchbox. Its expiration coincided with our move and I meant to renew, something in the back of my mind had encouraged me to see what other beauty subscription boxes there where out there. I was reading through a friends InStyle magazine and I came across Sephora Play! I had no idea that Sephora had branched out into its own monthly subscription service and I did not have to think twice. Honestly I joined the waitlist,  (I am not sure if it is genuinely that or a PR tactic, either way it works.)   So you can imagine my delight when I returned on Saturday and found this black and white box on my doorstep. Well here is my first review. Enjoy.

Have a great week.

Adult Summer Faves

by thelifestylelady October 17, 2016

Howdy Y’all,

Welcome to Monday. Trust your weekend was relaxed, restful and fun. Ours was just that, unfortunately they go too fast. On Saturday we went to a Taste of event in our village, it was small but effective as I got to see the local vendors. I found a dry cleaner who will collect and deliver from my home (win win.) Little L found a local cupcake shop which was delicious (not such great news long term -lol) What was interesting was Walgreens were represented (a drugstore to non US readers) by Boots (a U.K. drugstore.) They were foundation matching with a machine and giving samples away, being a beauty junkie I was happy to act as volunteer and honestly I was so surprised how accurate the machine was in selecting the correct tone for my skin. I gave a mini review of the product on Instastories and Snapchat. My names are @thelifestylelady and @lifestylelady respectively, if you want a giggle give me a follow.

Saturday night saw date night, firstly we braved that wild jungle called Toys R Us, we were looking for Little L’s impending third birthday (I am in complete denial.) We then recovered by watching Girl on the Train, Emily Blunt was superb but I preferred the book. We followed such darkness with Tapas and good red wine which was yummy. Today has been more relaxed as I was feeling a little under the weather.

So in Texas we are still in full summer mode, I dream of scarves, fleece and hot chocolate but today I share with you my adult summer faves. These are things I have loved, used and repurchased. Many of the things are not entirely summer specific, so please enjoy.

Have a good week.

Products Empties – Repurchase or not?

by thelifestylelady September 9, 2016

Howdy Y’all,

Congratulations you have made it through another week! We have a nice weekend planned here is Casa Lifestyle, meeting and catching up with old friends. I ripped the pull – ups band aid off Little L yesterday and I am pleased to report so far so good. (Not sure how school will go today!) I ordered my 2017 diary this week, which is crazy, the end of the year is approaching quickly, which is reinforced by the shops already carrying items for Christmas! I am the first to enjoy holiday spirit but only after Thanksgiving. I am trying to get more into the spirit of Fall/Autumn, there are some yummy candle smell entering stores and Little L and I went to purchase a few extra items to decorate our home a little. If you have not been following the blog for long you may have missed last years post on Outdoor Decoration since then we have moved and have a larger space to decorate, so Little L and I have been purchasing and will post about  it in due course. It is difficult to decorate when it is high nineties outside.

Today’s video is about products I have used till empty. Some of them a fantastic others not so much. So please enjoy! If you are watching on You Tube please subscribe.

Have a fab weekend

Ta Ta for now.

Sephora Haul

by thelifestylelady May 16, 2016

imageHowdy Y’all,

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Life has been a little full on around here recently and once again I have struggled with the life/blog balance, but I know that you understand. I am working hard on making time and have been meaning to edit this video for a while. I am very lucky that recently Mr L bought me a new laptop. It is a beautiful bit of kit but it requires lots of learning about, especially in the video editing area, so please be patient as I get the hang of the new software. I have been meaning to tell you about some of my more recent Sephora purchases so here we are. The video is a little longer that I would like, so I wont be offended if you fast forward, but their are some gems so its worth a watch. Grab a cuppa or a glass of vino and put your feet up.

Happy Watching

Mother’s Day Gift Guide

by thelifestylelady April 15, 2016

Howdy Y’all,

One thing I learnt when I moved to the US was that it celebrates Mothering Sunday on another day from the UK which made purchasing gifts and cards difficult. I have overcome this small obstacle and now I have my own American daughter I think I should be entitled to two Mother’s Day who is with me? In all seriousness Mother’s Day is a fabulous tradition where we can celebrate all women who mean something to us. I have mentioned previously that my family are on the move and we will be spending this Mothering Sunday in our new location trying to find a home. Which no doubt will remind me of the importance of being a mother and trying to make this transition as seamless as possible. This post gives some gift suggestions, especially if the man in your life has some influence over gift purchasing. I of course love the homemade card and gift but will leave all of those ideas to people far more craftly gifted than I. So may I be as bold to suggest, sending a link to this article or leaving this page open and placing it subtly on top of the TV remote so you get something special this May. Lets crack on…

image

  1. Lush Gift Box I am not sure whether I have mentioned about the wonderful Bath Bombs and Bubble Bars that they sell at Lush, they are outstanding. They make bath time all the more decedant and what mama does not need that? If you are new to the brand a gift box like this is a great introduction. You can also go instore or online and pick out your own selections which might be fun for little kids to do.
  2. Satin Robe If you are like me then a robe is a treat, especially one that does not have your toddlers previous breakfast on the sleeve. This is elegant can be personalized and make you feel special. Yes please.
  3. Rose Gold Knot Earrings If jewelry is your gift of choice for Mother’s Day then I expect you want something classic and timeless that will stand the test of time. These I believe fit that order, they are turn on the classic as they are in the fashionable rose gold. Enjoy.
  4. Frends Headphones So I think I may have mentioned these before, they are beautiful. I love the gold and white ones, they are so feminine and every mummy needs a set.
  5. Tote Bag So if like me you love bags then maybe Mother’s Day is an occasion to extend your collection. I often share bags I love but I wanted to share this link. A friend bought me the grey/blue one for Christmas and I was hooked. I also own the brown/coral one, they are reversible, affordable, great size, comfortable and you wont be devastated if a sippy cup spills. I encourage everyone to grab one.
  6. Silhouette Necklace This a new discovery and it all looks beautiful. What mother wouldn’t want the silhouette necklace I want to do an art order after my move.

If none of these ideas do much for you what mother wouldn’t like flowers? Or perhaps a spa voucher? You can never go wrong with a Sephora gift card or a blowout voucher. Have you thought of a gift subscription like Birchbox or FabFitFun. Or you could go down the charitable route of sponsoring a child. Whatever you like I wish you a Happy Mothering Sunday and hope you get to share the day with those you love and whom love you after all that’s what it’s really about.

Ta ta for now,

TLL Guide To The Sephora Sale

by thelifestylelady April 13, 2016

Howdy Y’all,

I am like a bus, one doesn’t come for ages then two arrive at the same time. Today this represents my blog posts. This is the last day of the Sephora sale, for those who regularly frequent Sephora you will know that sales and coupons do not arrive often enough, so when they do, JUMP! I have the VIB status which means I have had extended access to the sale and was hoping that my order would have arrived so that I could share my thoughts with you. I thought it might be useful to show you what I decided to purchase. (Don’t look Mr L!)

Mini Mani Kit This is great for travel or in your purse, a total essential and a fab color. Everyone should own one.

Nars Eyeshadow Duo Isolde I have been wanting this for an age but every time I went into Sephora they were sold out. This is meant to be a fantastic duo for blue eyes. Looking forward to trying it.

Tangle Teazer If you have thick hair or a daughter with a curly mane, this would be an essential on your list. Perfect color.

Sunday Riley Power Couple Duo: Total Transformation Kit I plan to do a post exclusively on this. I am repurchasing as I am in love but I wanted to buy in the sale as it is a little pricier item. If tempted – go for it.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask I love a mask, I don’t know much about this one but it has wonderful reviews so looking forward to trying it.

Tata Harper Regenerating Cleanser  This corresponds to my earlier post, trying cleansers. This one is very popular amongst beauty bloggers and has won several awards so looking forward to trying.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Dim Light I am the newest fan of the Ambient Lighting collection and wanted to give another a try. I jumped at the travel size which I always love to purchase because if you want to sample and dislike your not wasting as much money. I expect to love this.

SEPHORA COLLECTION Beauty on the Fly If you are a regular traveler in the sky this is a must.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 Sugar Tulip Tinted  Mentioned my love for these is previous posts, did I mention Little L loves them to, hence my repurchasing!! Great tint range, purchase you wont regret.

Hope this helps. What are you purchasing? Send me a note I still have time for another order.

Happy Shopping

TLL Essential Cleansers

by thelifestylelady April 13, 2016

Howdy Y’all,

I am writing this from a rainy Texas after having two weeks of wonderful weather. With the prospect of a very hot summer rapidly approaching the idea of getting outside and enjoying Spring is a must so blogging might be a little on the back burner. One of the questions I get asked quite a lot from friends is about my skincare. I had been thinking about what is the best way to produce this post without it turning into an essay, it seems to make sense to break it down into each element and maybe vlog the whole process later. So today I thought I would start with cleansing. I am very fortunate that the skin (on my face) has never given me many problems, it is on the dry side but I suffer with few breakouts (except last week I had two!) and have never had acne. If I have areas of concern they tend to be dryness and redness (English skin.) I do think genetics and a healthy approach of lots of water and plenty of sleep contribute hugely to your skins welfare. You can seize control to ensure you give your skin a great foundation with an effective skincare routine and this for me this starts with cleansing. Finding great cleansers that work for you, can totally transform your skincare routine. I do like to try different cleansers from time to time but I have two which I absolutely love and would literally cause me to have a complete meltdown if I didn’t have several in backup.

Cleansing is so important because it cleanses (obviously.) It also prepares the skin for further skincare/ sunscreens/ makeup or masks. I always cleanse first thing in the morning, it wakes me up and helps me face the day. I have a morning cleanser by my sink and another in the shower depending when or where I am. This helps remove any skin care from the night before that has not been absorbed, sweat and altogether makes my skin feel clean and ready to receive makeup.

Essential Cleanser

In the evening I am a strong advocate for the double cleanse, whether you are a makeup wearer of not I love to use an oil cleanser first, I enjoy the feel of it on my dry skin and nothing breaks mascara down like it. I have tried sampled many different oil base cleansers both high end and drug store and I have always come back to The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil. My relationship with The Body Shop makes me smile because it is where I started exploring skincare and makeup in my early teens and now in my thirties I have gone full circle and I find I am drawn back to the brand. I love the natural aspects and the products are gentle and very effective. I must do a post on my favorite Body Shop products. It has a fabulous price point and they run amazing deals on their website which I always participate in. I get nervous if I don’t have three of these in stocks. It would be on my skincare must haves. Sure you can pay more for a fancier brand (which I do when I feel it is necessary, but this is a must have.) I use a muslin cloth which you can also purchase through them to remove.

After I have finished my first oil cleanse I always turn to my trusty faithful Liz Earle’s Cleanse & Polish. If you have followed my blog for sometime you will know how much I love the Liz Earle brand. This for me is the hands down the star of the fleet and beauty insiders agree with me. It has won over 120 awards and I am never without it. A pump of the cream on your skin sooths and removes any remaining oil or makeup. The removal with warm water and muslin cloth works as a gentle exfoliator and really cleanses the skin. I really feel after I have removed this that my skin is clean, soft and brighter. If I have no other cleansers to sample or my skin feels drier than normal it is this I reach for as my morning cleanse also. This again is a wonderful price point and contains no chemicals or nasty’s. This is a product I recommend everyone to try.

origins_sku_0L1Y01_500x625_0

I do not have huge emotional attachment to other cleansers but thought I would mention a few other I have been sampling or I grab if I see them on special at the store. Origins GinZing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser This I tend to always have in my shower, it has the most amazing smell and is so invigorating for the face first thing in the morning. Origins is another terrific brand and the quality across the line is fantastic. The reason I don’t use this everyday is because it is a scrub and is a tad abrasive to use daily on my sensitive/dry skin. I do use it at least twice a week and Mr L has been know to reach for it, as the smell is unisex. So if real estate is tight in your shower this might work well. Another great price point, if you were to purchase you wouldn’t regret. The reason I don’t have any at the moment is because I am waiting for a delivery from Sephora.

Cucumber Cleanser

Yes To Cucumbers Soothing Daily Gel Cleaner. If you have very sensitive skin than this I would recommend. It might also be for you if you are not a fan of heavily floral fragrances as the cucumber is a subtle cooling fragrance.  This again is lovely and I tend to reach for it if my skin is feeling very sensitive or if I have been in the sun. It does soothe the skin. The reason it is not a must have for me is because honestly I am not a huge fan of gel cleansers. They are thick and I don’t love rubbing their texture into my face. I also don’t love the way they lather. I prefer oil and cream, that being said this is one of my fav gel cleansers I have tried. It is also drug store and a more than reasonable price point. So if you are on a budget this might be worth a try.

Kiels Cleanser Final

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser I have been trying this one out as I received it in my Birchbox last month. Kiehl’s again is a well respected brand and I had high hopes. Firstly there is nothing wrong with the cleanser, it removes your makeup but for me it is a gel and therefore I am not a mad fan of the texture. I also don’t love the fragrance. I probably wouldn’t purchase again simply because I have other products which suit my skin better.

Hope your skin is feeling squeaky clean now, the world of cleansing is a complex one as there are so many to choose from depending on your skin type and your texture preference. Some simple things to remember, don’t let your water get too hot, and change your muslin/wash cloth regularly (everyday if you can.) What cleansers do you love? Let me know.

Ta ta for now.

Monday Links and Loves

by thelifestylelady March 7, 2016

imageHowdy Y’all,

Hope you are all doing well and that your weekend was super. TBH last week was not great in the L household, nothing went as it was meant and on Wednesday I declared to a friend that I was hibernating till today. Unfortunately that is not possible with a toddler, but I dug deep and continued. Little L has been teething with her molars which is horrid for her, painful and very tiring. I do feel that I can face anything if I can get a good nights kip. Today is a new week.

Last week I did finally push my posterior into implementing one of my NYR. This was using outstanding gift cards and being more efficient with coupons. Please don’t tell me that I’m alone when I stand in line to buy something which I have a coupon for, only to learn that I changed purses and did not transfer the coupon. With a screaming toddler and standing in line for an eternity you make the decision you need the item regardless of the coupon and you could not be bothered to do this again. This is why I need a better system.

If you have followed the blog for a while you will know I adore candles. I love the higher end candles like Diptyque, Tom Dixon or Jo Malone, but I do often find myself not burning them regularly and “keeping the for best.” I have to date been impressed with the candles at Bed,Bath and Bodyworks. Everyday we have one burning as a way to mask the smells of daily life. I will preface I do not like every fragrance but I do love Fresh Cut Lilacs, White Gardenia and Endless Weekend at the moment. I had a 10$ off $30 and I had wanted to use it. I had been waiting for the 3 wick candles which are usually $22.50 to drop in price and then I would pounce. When the email arrived on Friday that said candles were $12.50 I did a sneaky order. Ssh do not tell Mr L, I did get $10 off and wait for a sale, so it is a bargain – right?

Keeping with the gift card theme I had one for Sephora . I treated myself to a Sunday Riley Power Couple Transformation Kit which included her Good Genes and Luna Oil. I have heard so much buzz surrounding this brand and these products in particular. I have just started using so I will report back in a separate post. I also purchased the Clinique Bottom Lash mascara, again I have heard great things so will report back.

Tis the season for the spring/summer catalogues to arrive in the mail! The weather has been so beautiful here I feel spring like already. When Mini Boden dropped on the doorstep I jumped on one or two of the items for Little L. Although it is a slightly higher price point, the quality is fantastic, plus I think they are current, age appropriate and use color beautifully. I hate to see little people in drab colors. If you are not familiar with this British brand, take a look online, they are also sold at Nordstrom.

Food wise it was a harder week. I was not in my cooking mojo.  I always like to return to a classic family pleaser when I am like this. A recipe I know and know works. For those of you not familiar with the UK cook Mary Berry you should. She is a national treasure and her family recipes and cook books work. This week I made this lasagna which Mr L and Little L love and devour. Plus Little L eats spinach and mushroom in this, no problems. I urge you to give it a try. Thanks to Mary for producing some of my fav recipes.

Mr L hit a home run this week when he purchased a Google cardboard D-scope Pro, what is that I hear you say? It is a virtual reality headset which allows you to turn your Iphone into a 3D viewer. Which for our dinosaur loving toddler has been such a hit especially for those potty training tantrums. It is a great price point and great fun. I just do not know where he gets these ideas?!

This weekend I found a new place to get a mani and pedi, which was so overdue, my last one was pre christmas (how embarrassing.) I could have gone earlier but I have been trying out a foot peel (more on that in another post.) I will say the place was fantastic and it was showing Fixer Upper on the TV screens, win win. This is now my fav place to escape.

This week the weather is to turn bad and rain the whole time, it is also Spring Break which means all kiddies are off school so everywhere will be packed. I will be trying to entertain Little L with crafts and baking otherwise the two of us caged inside will be fatal.

Have a happy week.

Ta ta for now.

Yesterday we celebrated 10 years of marriage, no mean feat by today’s statistics. It was not the celebration or in the place where we had planned, but if Covid has taught me anything it’s that we are not in charge and can not control everything . It is not the bells and whistles that make the most sacred of memories. I am not one for big declarations of affection (sorry y’all,) I share simply this, I got lucky, I married a man I looked up too and respect. He doesn’t need to tell you what a good egg he is because he demonstrates it in his everyday unassuming way. He is a gentleman in all ways. Our decade has not been all plain sailing, we have moved more than some people vote, we have laughed more than we have cried and there has been reason for both. We had our beautiful daughter and although the path was not as easy or as we imagined we are a family. Life rarely goes the way you plan, case in point currently, but it’s a hell of a lot easier with a partner who is always you greatest ambassador and champion. Love like life is a journey and I am glad to do it with you. Happy Anniversary Mr L! #thelifestylelady #marriage #love #anniversary
